Manual hydraulic adjustable workbench.
One foot operated hydraulic pump with foot operated pressure release valve.
Two vertical mount 300kg to 500kg rated hydraulic cylinders with 400mm travel. One centered in either side leg of the workbench.
Minimal modification to existing workbench. Minimal extra manufacturing process. Hydraulics have inherently low friction compared to other mechanical devices.
The average person has 4 to 6 times as much leg strength as they have arm strength. So lift rate could easily be set to meet or exceed target 15mm/s rate without spring assist. Lowering is even easier, with a properly configured release valve the action is very smooth with just a press of the release valve.
Potential drawbacks are that some hydraulic systems are not intended to be left in a load bearing position, they only are used to move the load. A locking system at the legs may need to be implemented, possibly over-center latches or spring pins. Either that or a spring loaded one way pawl that only locks on lowering. It would have a cable release to pull before lowering. This is similar to some automotive lifts.
Another feature that might be necessary would be a guard for the release valve so that it could not be accidentally engaged.
