This was a project my students wanted to accomplish.
I modeled the parabolic dish so that we could better understand the focal point. This would make it easier for them to figure out the rest.
This was silvered to make an impressive solar oven. It was controlled to follow the sun using a LEGO Mindstorms robot. the max temperature reached was about 450 Dec-C! hot enough to permanently discolour my titanium coffee mug (that is alright titanium coffee mugs are a bad idea due to thermal conductivity- I burnt myself just holding it).

A successful project that warrants another try with lessons learnt.
